1. Install World of Warcraft

First of all you have to get yourself a World of Warcraft installation. Either use a retail copy or if you don't have one, download the game using the link below. When installing follow the instructions and choose The Lich King when asked to choose an expansion.

Download WoW installer

2. Patch to version 3.3.3a

Locate the BackgroundDownloader.exe program in your WoW installation directory and run it. This will automatically update your game to the latest version. If a newer patch then 3.3.3a is available, don't allow it to update higher than that (hit the cancel button as soon as it starts downloading a newer patch). If the BackgroundDownloader doesn't work or updates too much, you have to download and install patches manually using the link below.

If you want to speed up the background downloader, click here.

2.1. Speeding up your BackgroundDownloader.exe

When your download is very slow, you could try to enable the 'Don't throttle background download' option. To do so, go to your BackgroundDownloader and choose the View button. Three options will appear. Click 'Preferences...'.

Now enable the 'Don't throttle background download' option.

Press 'OK' when your done. It could take a few minutes before your downloadspeed increases.

3. Create your WoO account

Click the link below to register an account using our Account Registration form. Note that you will need only one, but you can create more additional accounts (e.g. if you want to play both horde and alliance).

Register your WoO Account

4. Change the realmlist

Click one of the links below to download our realmlist.wtf file (choose the one that matches your locale, which is enGB if you used the installer from step 1). When asked to open/save the file, save it to the data\enGB or data\enUS folder in your WoW installation directory. If your browser doesn't ask you where to save the file, then move it there manually. When asked to overwrite the file, just answer yes. Alternatively, you can edit the realmlist.wtf file manually and change the first line to read "set realmlist wow.worldofopportunities.net" (leave the other lines untouched).

set realmlist logon.polowow.com

5. Enter the polowow

Start your game using WoW.exe (in the installation folder) and login to your account. Now create your character and have fun!

While playing don't forget to stay in touch with our great community; join the world channel by typing "/join world" and enter the arena once in a while by entering ".pvp enter". Good luck with your first quests, we hope to see you rise a great character!
